Millie's Aloha Drive-In, Allegan Michigan

Millie's Aloha, Summer 1990
Today businesses pitch up faux 50's diners decorated with Elvis silhouettes, while our genuine 1950s architectural culture crumbles. The deterioration of Millie's Aloha Drive-In, in nearby Allegan, MI was such a disaster.  Millie's had the coolest neon sign on M-89, carhops, and delicious hamburgers.  After being driven out of business by the nearby McDonald's in the early 90's, Millie's sat vacant for a decade, and narrowly escaped being condemned by the city.  It has since re-opened as a 50s themed ice cream shack, with miniature golf in the back. Unfortunately, the sign, after a decade of neglect, was not repairable.  The new owners have put a lot of work into building and property, and deserve praise for breathing life back into this old place.
