EFFIE'S RESTAURANT
was located on E Michigan Ave perhaps where the Singapore Grill is now (?). Effie's was a long, skinny, smoky room decked out in dark paneling; all seating was booth style. It was open 24 hours and always abuzz with bleary eyed, scruffy bearded men sucking down coffee in the middle of the night. The food was good, old fashioned greasy spoon fare that really hit the spot. More people seemed to notice the misspelling of "lunches" than the interesting addition to the "W" in "Waffles!"
