| Built in the early 60's, the Downtowner Motel achieved a certain reputation as the decades passed. Condemned by the city in September 2004, the structure fell to the wrecking ball the following month. Decried by many as an eyesore, the Downtowner did have character. Love her or hate her, losing this classis Kennedy-era architecture is one more brick in the wall toward Kalamazoo's homogenization. Above, the Downtowner in her glory in the summer of 2001.
