Kalamazoo built Checkers from 1922 to 1982 in the Pitcher plant.  You can still see the occasional Checker Marathon sedan on local streets.  The plant later operated at partial capacity making Cadillac parts for General Motors. Abandoned Checker cabs still litter the property.  There was never a better taxicab. More info on Checker Cabs is available HERE.
